WKU’s Ozer, Aydin, Represent EPSCoR-supported research at IEEE Conference, Mexico

Ahmet Kaan Aydin, the WKU’s John D. Minton awardee of 2022, from Mathematics has successfully presented his paper co-authored with Prof. Ahmet Ozkan Ozer at the prestigious 61st IEEE Conference on Control and Decision in Cancun, Mexico, taking place from December 6-9, 2022. Ahmet’s research was fully funded by the Kentucky NSF EPSCoR KAMPERS (National Science Foundation Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research Kentucky Advanced Manufacturing Partnership for Enhanced Robotics and Structures) project. Ahmet is currently a PhD student at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Ahmet’s paper with the title “Robust-Filtering of Sensor Data for the Finite Difference Model Reduction of a Piezoelectric Sandwich Beam” is presented at the “Reduced Order Modeling” special session organized by. The paper published in the IEEE Proceedings, which is available here, sheds a light on the robust sensor design for layered smart laminates where the coupling of different dynamics makes the algorithm much more complicated. The sensor design successfully captures the overall dynamics on the laminates by simply a point measurement at the tip of the laminate. The corresponding real-time simulations and complete algorithm just got published at Wolfram, and it can be reached through here.

The IEEE CDC is recognized as the premier scientific and engineering conference dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice of systems and control. The CDC annually brings together an international community of researchers and practitioners in the field of automatic control to discuss new research results, perspectives on future developments, and innovative applications relevant to decision making, automatic control, and related areas. The IEEE CDC is hosted by the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) in cooperation with the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and the Japanese Society for Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE).
